I’m a 300-level student who’s lived both on and off campus. Living off campus exposes you to rent, bills, safety concerns and real-world responsibilities—just like life after graduation. In hostel life, most discussions revolve around lectures, exams and campus events. Bills and long-term planning rarely come up. Off-campus living forces you to budget, problem-solve and think about your future sooner. There are exceptions—some students on campus still juggle challenges, and a few benefit from family support. But for many of us, sheltered campus life can delay the reality check that prepares us for unemployment struggles and adult responsibilities.
