Baze University Marks 20 Years of the African Court with Public Lecture
Baze University, in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission, held a public lecture on April 9 at its Faculty of Law to celebrate two decades of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. Hon. Lady Justice Stella Isibhakhomen Anukam delivered the keynote address titled “Moving from Promises to Action,” reviewing the Court’s mandate, landmark judgments, and its role in strengthening accountability and fundamental freedoms across Africa. Academics, legal practitioners, students, and human rights advocates engaged in discussions on the Court’s successes and challenges, exploring ways to improve access to justice and bolster institutional effectiveness on the continent. Organizers highlighted the importance of sustained collaboration between universities and human rights bodies to translate legal commitments into meaningful outcomes for ordinary Africans.
