Two Young Women Bring Free Eye Care to Oshodi Community

Two Young Women Bring Free Eye Care to Oshodi Community — 1 of 4
1 / 4

Many Nigerians live with avoidable vision problems because quality eye care can be expensive and hard to access. Through MediServe, founders Joy Ogunsan and Soleeha Musa-Etiko led a free eye screening and spectacle distribution at MeCure HealthCare in Oshodi. Sixty residents received professional eye exams and 14 beneficiaries were fitted with custom medicated glasses. The initiative aimed to restore independence, improve safety, and boost confidence for drivers, traders, students and elderly citizens. Organisers emphasised early detection of conditions like glaucoma and refractive errors to prevent serious vision loss. Joy and Soleeha hope to grow MediServe into a nonprofit that delivers accessible healthcare across Nigeria, with plans to expand beyond eye care and build a strong volunteer network.

It's great they offered free spectacles, but what happens when follow-up appointments are needed or lenses break?
