Road Insecurity Is Real, but Nigerians Still Travel Interstate Every Day

A friend who has lived outside Nigeria since 2016 wants to visit home, but stories about road insecurity have made him afraid. He believed travelling from Lagos to Ilorin by road would require keeping ransom money aside. I agree that insecurity is real and should not be dismissed. However, the claim that nobody can travel on Nigerian roads is exaggerated. Thousands of people make interstate journeys daily, and motor parks across Lagos remain busy with travellers heading to different parts of the country. We should discuss the security challenges honestly without creating unnecessary panic or politicising every issue. I showed my friend recent photos of busy parks, and he has now booked tickets to visit his parents with his wife and children for the first time since 2016.
