NSC Names Adamu, Igali and Ekeji as Team Nigeria Ambassadors for Glasgow 2026

The National Sports Commission has unveiled a distinguished team of ambassadors to spearhead Nigeria’s preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Leading the list are respected sports administrators Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, Dr Amos Adamu and Chief Patrick Ekeji, joined by Alhassan Yakmut and Gbenga Elegbeleye. Former Olympic medallist Daniel Igali, wrestling star Blessing Oborodudu and athletics veteran Tajudeen Ogunbade also feature among the ambassadors. They are joined by boxing champion Khadijat Sulaiman, boxing hopeful Victor Iroele, a representative from Premium Trust Bank and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi. The 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from 23 July to 2 August in Glasgow, featuring 10 sports and full para-sports integration. Nigeria aims to blend experienced governance, corporate partnership and athlete insight to boost its medal prospects and global standing. By unveiling this ambassadorial team, the NSC underscores its strategic drive to strengthen support systems, enhance athlete welfare and deliver a strong performance in Scotland and beyond.

Absolutely agree. Igali's profile could really inspire Team Nigeria to push harder in Glasgow 2026.

They've picked top administrators, but grassroots athletes might feel left out since no emerging stars were mentioned.

Chief Ekeji's experience is impressive, but I'm not convinced this trio can address real funding and training challenges ahead.

To make the most of these appointments, the NSC should host town halls so athletes and coaches share input ahead of Glasgow 2026.
