PDP Tension Rises as Senator Anyanwu Appeals Expulsion Verdict

There is growing unease in the Wike-led PDP after Senator Samuel Anyanwu filed a Notice of Appeal at the Court of Appeal. He wants to overturn the January High Court ruling that upheld his expulsion for alleged anti-party activities. His appeal now threatens to invalidate the March national convention that produced Abdulrahman Mohammed’s factional leadership. Critics say his suspension and expulsion cast doubt on the legality of all factional decisions, from caretaker committee appointments to candidate nominations. Earlier, the High Court dismissed his challenge for lack of jurisdiction. It found he was properly invited to defend himself before the party’s disciplinary committee but failed to attend. The court also held it could not review an intra-party dispute where due process was followed. With the deadline for appeal looming, focus is on the Court of Appeal’s upcoming ruling. Its decision could reshape power dynamics within the PDP.

I agree, he probably wants to safeguard his political future and avoid losing influence in the Senate.

I doubt he's driven only by self-preservation; could be genuine belief in procedural fairness.

Many wonder if this appeal really holds weight or if it's just a stalling tactic to delay internal party reforms.

It's easy to blame the courts, but maybe PDP's own leadership issues caused this situation more than external rulings.

PDP stakeholders should prioritize transparent dialogue on party discipline to avoid similar disputes and maintain unity moving forward.
