Ekiti State Unveils Ugele–Iho Oloko Cave as New Eco-Adventure Landmark

Ekiti State Unveils Ugele–Iho Oloko Cave as New Eco-Adventure Landmark — 1 of 4
1 / 4

In Ikere-Ekiti, Discover Ekiti Tourism Club and the Ekiti State Bureau of Tourism Development jointly opened the Ugele–Iho Oloko Cave for the 8th Hike Ekiti Mountain Safari. The event highlighted the rugged beauty of the cave and its rich Late Stone Age heritage. Archaeological studies led by a University of Ibadan professor uncovered pottery, microliths and tools dated to around A.D. 1310. Oral history adds that local hunters and entire communities once took refuge in its five chambers and tunnel networks. The youth-led tourism club, under its first female president, and strong state backing have positioned the cave as a premier eco-cultural destination. With panoramic hilltop views, dense forest trails and community partnerships, the site promises new jobs and sustainable growth for Ekiti’s tourism sector.
