1 / 2

Tansian University in Anambra has terminated the appointment of Prof. Ellis Idemobi as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, effective April 8, 2026. The university board accused him of manipulating official documents and administrative processes to undermine the proprietors and alter control of the institution for personal gain. They also cited financial misappropriation and deliberate destabilisation of governance structures. Officials said his appointment was irregular and lacked approval from the university’s trustees, proprietors and Visitor. They added that his actions breached National Universities Commission guidelines and caused serious governance failures. Idemobi has been ordered to surrender all university property and records within 24 hours.

Terminating a pro-chancellor over document manipulation seems drastic, yet the board's secrecy raises doubts about transparency in the process.

It feels like the board jumped too quickly to dismiss him without giving Idemobi a fair chance to address the allegations.

Stakeholders should demand an independent audit of the council's actions to restore confidence and ensure proper procedures at the university.
