Beyond Democracy: Building a Strong Government for National Progress
I believe universal adult suffrage alone cannot guarantee a country’s success or improve citizens’ living standards. Democracy does not automatically deliver better outcomes for the people. What we need is a robust government that relies on the industry of its citizens and is sustained by a high tax-to-GDP ratio. Such funding ensures the state has the resources to govern effectively. I propose a peer-reviewed governance system with a National Assembly of elders—representatives of professional bodies and trade unions like the NBA, ICAN, ASUU and NUT. Whether elected by union members or otherwise, this assembly could overrule policy and keep the government accountable. Democracy as we know it will not save a nation. A real, well-funded government with checks from experienced leaders offers a more promising path to progress.
