Electricity Reform Forum in Onitsha: FirstPower Promises Meter Lab and Embedded Generation
The Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission (ASERC) held its public consultation on draft 2026 regulations in Onitsha, bringing stakeholders together to shape customer protection and licensing rules. FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company joined the two-day forum and reaffirmed its commitment to better service for Ndi Anambra. During the sessions, ASERC’s chairman stressed transparency and due process as participants reviewed standards for metering, billing, connections, and investments. FirstPower’s MD explained national grid constraints behind recent supply drops and outlined plans for an embedded power plant and a new meter lab in Onitsha with capacity to produce 2,500 meters daily. Stakeholders voiced concerns about estimated billing, theft, and service responsiveness. They praised the decentralised approach and urged stronger collaboration among distribution companies, regulators, security agencies, and communities to deliver reliable electricity.
