NDLEA Arrests Suspected Courier After He Swallowed 45 Cocaine Pellets Bound for Europe

NDLEA Arrests Suspected Courier After He Swallowed 45 Cocaine Pellets Bound for Europe

The NDLEA intercepted a 33-year-old man on a commercial bus along the Ibadan–Oyo expressway after a body scan revealed he had ingested illicit substances. Under observation, he excreted 45 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.043kg in three sessions. Investigations show he avoided air travel to evade detection and planned to use a trans-Saharan route through Sokoto and Algeria before reaching Europe. Meanwhile, NDLEA teams also seized 1.196 million pharmaceutical opioid pills in Edo, 810kg of cannabis in Lagos, 154.5kg of skunk in Bauchi, and 466.8kg of cannabis in Ekiti. In Cross River, 20 tonnes of cultivated cannabis were destroyed and 170kg of processed leaf recovered. In Niger State, officers intercepted 394 improvised explosive device components, now with relevant security agencies. Beyond enforcement, the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse campaigns continued in schools, religious centres and communities nationwide. The NDLEA leadership praised these operations as major disruptions to trafficking networks and warned of the dangers such drugs pose to public safety.

How do you think drug traffickers still manage to slip past NDLEA checkpoints on major highways?

You're right, it's troubling how they still find ways around checkpoints. They must exploit system gaps and creative concealment methods.

Honestly, it's baffling they keep evading checkpoints despite all the surveillance and screening.

The bus route between Ibadan and Oyo seems to be a common corridor for illicit activities, despite previous NDLEA warnings.

Relying solely on body scanners feels naive, perhaps NDLEA needs better profiling protocols instead of trust in tech alone.

Regular training for road patrol officers on drug mules' tactics could help detect suspicious passengers early before reaching checkpoints.
