King Charles Becomes First Monarch to Publish 12.9 Million Pounds Tax Bill
King Charles has become the first British monarch to publish his tax bill for 2024–25. According to financial accounts released this week, he paid 12.9 million pounds in income and capital gains tax. Since ascending the throne in September 2022, he has paid over 30 million pounds in voluntary taxes. The report also reveals Prince William has contributed more than 20 million pounds in taxes since becoming Prince of Wales. The Sovereign Grant, which supports official duties and the royal household, rose by 45.8 million pounds to 132.1 million pounds for 2025–26. Buckingham Palace will remain the monarchy’s operational centre but will no longer be the King and Queen’s official London residence. They will continue living at Clarence House to allow more public access to the palace once extensive refurbishment is complete.
