FG, States and LGs Share ₦2.26trn as VAT and Tax Revenues Surge
In April 2026, a total of ₦2.257 trn was shared from the Federation Account among the Federal Government, 36 state governments and 774 local councils following strong growth in VAT, Companies Income Tax, import duties and oil earnings. The distributable pool comprised ₦1.260 trn in statutory revenue, ₦747.088 bn in VAT allocations and a ₦250 bn augmentation fund. Gross inflows stood at ₦3.184 trn before ₦113.756 bn in collection costs and ₦813.839 bn set aside for transfers, refunds and savings. The Federal Government received ₦787.351 bn, states shared ₦772.360 bn and local councils got ₦540.152 bn. Oil-producing states also received ₦157.254 bn as their 13% derivation revenue. Compared with March, statutory revenue rose by ₦678.224 bn to ₦2.378 trn while VAT collections climbed by ₦142.192 bn to ₦806.617 bn, boosting fiscal support for ongoing infrastructure and social projects.
