Xhaka Sets Sights on 2026 World Cup Success with Switzerland
Granit Xhaka believes Switzerland can shine at the 2026 World Cup in North America. Drawn with co-hosts Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Qatar, the Swiss have a favourable group to navigate. Xhaka says the first goal is to safely progress beyond the group stage. “That’s a must for Switzerland and for us as a team,” he told FIFA. Now captain, he will make his fourth World Cup appearance and holds the Swiss record for most World Cup matches played. He says he wants to stay fit and keep his hunger for more tournaments alive. Switzerland open against Qatar in San Francisco on 13 June. They then face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Los Angeles before concluding the group stage against Canada in Vancouver on 24 June.
