DSS, Army Foil ESN Kidnap Plot on WAEC Students in Southeast, Recover Arsenal

DSS, Army Foil ESN Kidnap Plot on WAEC Students in Southeast, Recover Arsenal

Security agents of the Department of State Services and troops of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday prevented a planned abduction of WAEC candidates in Enugu, Anambra and Imo states. Acting on credible intelligence, they raided an ESN armoury in the Agbani area of Enugu. Officials recovered eight AK-47 rifles, a rocket launcher with warheads, smoke and teargas canisters, over 1,000 rounds of ammunition and NYSC uniforms intended for disguise. Further raids around Garki, Enugu State, yielded more arms and led to several arrests. This operation comes amid growing concerns over repeated school kidnappings and underscores the need for heightened security around examination centres.
