Commuters Stranded as Floodwaters Ground Gov. Mbah’s Bus in Nsukka

Commuters Stranded as Floodwaters Ground Gov. Mbah’s Bus in Nsukka

A heavy downpour on June 5 left roads in Nsukka, Enugu, submerged under dirty floodwater. A video shows a bus from the state governor’s initiative stuck behind a broken pickup truck as water reached its doors. Passengers remained in the bus while locals urged them to enter the floodwaters to pressure the governor for better drainage. The conductor waded out, and with help from bystanders, they pushed the pickup out of the way so the bus could continue its journey. Several other cars and a commercial tricycle were also stranded by the flood. The incident underscores ongoing infrastructure challenges in the area.

How do you think the state government should improve road drainage to prevent incidents like this in Nsukka?

Agree, regular dredging of culverts and proper waste removal will help drains clear faster during heavy rains.

It's striking that a governor's initiative bus got stuck while locals waded through filthy water to reach safety.

Perhaps we shouldn't blame only the officials when the prolonged downpour overwhelmed every road in the area, right?

Local authorities could set up emergency response teams with boats or makeshift bridges for quick rescue during floods.
