Court Challenge Rocks Kwara Speaker’s Dual Primary Bid

Court Challenge Rocks Kwara Speaker’s Dual Primary Bid

Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu’s bid for the 2027 governorship has hit a legal snag. A civil society group filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja over his alleged double participation in APC primaries. The Citizens Awareness Against Corruption and Social Vices Initiative named the APC and INEC as respondents. It claims Danladi contested the Ilesha/Gwanara House seat primary on May 20 and then took part in two governorship exercises on May 21 and May 22. The suit asks the court to declare his nominations unlawful and to bar INEC from recognising him as the APC governorship candidate if dual entries breach the Electoral Act. It cites the Constitution, the 2026 Electoral Act and Pre-Election Practice Directions. This legal action deepens a growing rift in the Kwara APC. The party’s elders have questioned Danladi’s emergence, while other factions insist he is fit to lead the ticket for 2027.

Attempting dual primaries seems to violate APC guidelines, and the court case could set a serious precedent.

I'm not convinced that courts should decide internal party nominations; primaries should stay within party jurisdiction.

Candidates should verify compliance with party regulations before filing nominations to avoid costly legal setbacks like this.
