Are South Africans Really Xenophobic or Just Seeking Respect?

I spent three years living in South Africa and often saw comments online calling locals xenophobic. From where I stood, they simply expect foreigners to respect their laws and communities. During my stay, I noticed occasional illegal activities and disrespectful behaviour by some foreigners. Just as we defend our homes in Nigeria, they don’t want trouble or unwelcome intrusion. Recently, many South Africans have urged foreigners to leave, highlighting concerns about jobs, safety, and social order. To me, that isn’t hatred but a desire for a respectful, secure, and drug-free society.
