Sunrise to Ruins: Exploring Pamukkale’s Terraces and Hierapolis
I’ve been to Turkey several times, but this winter escape from England felt different. After a quiet resort stay in Belek, I needed more than poolside books and cold beaches. I booked three guided tours around Antalya. The old town’s Roman archway and the dramatic Düden Waterfalls brought history and nature alive. A chilly, short boat trip and the Manavgat Bazaar fell a bit flat, but an impromptu stop at a mosque became a memorable cultural moment. The highlight was a 4:30am start to Pamukkale. Along the drive we sampled fresh bread from a local bakery and watched dawn balloons fill the sky. At Hierapolis, ancient terraces and ruins glowed in morning light, making the early wake-up well worth it.
