FCT Primary and Secondary School Teachers to Begin Indefinite Strike Tomorrow

FCT Primary and Secondary School Teachers to Begin Indefinite Strike Tomorrow

The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers has directed all primary and secondary school teachers to start an indefinite strike from Monday. This decision followed the expiry of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the FCT Minister on March 11 over unpaid entitlements and a pending committee report on teacher welfare. While the union commended the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage and arrears payments, it expressed concern that a committee set up in July 2025 has not published its recommendations. Parents are advised to keep their children at home until further notice. Teachers will remain on strike until all outstanding demands are fully addressed.

How will this indefinite strike affect students' learning and parents' schedules in FCT schools?

Has any school outlined backup plans to cover lessons and adjust parents' routines once the strike starts?

I agree, it's worrying. Students could fall behind while parents juggle sudden, erratic schedules daily.

Seems odd that no negotiations resumed during the seven-day ultimatum, yet teachers still head into an indefinite strike.

While unpaid salaries are serious, launching an indefinite strike risks punishing students more than the ministry.

Schools could arrange temporary e-learning sessions or weekend catch-up classes to minimise disruption until talks resume.
