ASUU Threatens Action as March Deadline for 2025 Salary Deal Expires

ASUU Threatens Action as March Deadline for 2025 Salary Deal Expires — 1 of 2
1 / 2

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned it will take action after its March deadline for full payment under the December 2025 agreement passed unheeded. ASUU president Christopher Piwuna said members are growing weary of delays. The 2025 deal included a 40% rise in allowances, a new salary structure, and welfare upgrades. Some salary adjustments started in January, but core elements remain unpaid. Earned Academic Allowances still haven’t been mainstreamed for many lecturers. Broader commitments like establishing a national research council and funding benchmarks are stuck. A ₦30 billion stabilisation fund has yet to be released. The union blames delays on the late budget and a shift in focus ahead of the 2027 polls. Though no strike has been announced, ASUU insists partial compliance is unacceptable. The union will follow its established procedures before any industrial action. An update is expected soon.
