‘Home Is Waiting’—NSC DG Appeals to Favour Ofili to Rejoin Team Nigeria After Transfer Denial

‘Home Is Waiting’—NSC DG Appeals to Favour Ofili to Rejoin Team Nigeria After Transfer Denial

The National Sports Commission has reaffirmed its full support for sprint star Favour Ofili after World Athletics declined her request to transfer allegiance to Turkey. The Director General of the NSC urged Ofili to return to the national team, describing her as “our daughter” and promising a welcoming environment. He reminded her not to be discouraged and assured her of all the support needed to excel at the next Olympics. The NSC also pledged to work closely with sports federations and stakeholders to provide Nigerian athletes with the resources and welfare they need to succeed globally.

As fans, what do you think motivated the NSC's appeal to Favour Ofili after that transfer denial?

I agree, they likely wanted to show her how much she's valued and needed for upcoming events.

It seems odd to emphasize her as 'our daughter' when no official reason was given for World Athletics' refusal.

I get the sentiment, but can emotional appeals really sway an elite athlete's career decisions?

The NSC could focus on providing high performance support and clear incentives to keep her committed to Nigeria.
