Why Nigeria’s Police Need More Than Road Patrols
Policing in Nigeria still relies heavily on static road checkpoints. This outdated approach does little to deter criminals, who can spot officers from afar and choose alternate routes. Many modern cities employ control rooms with CCTV networks to monitor activity. I experienced this firsthand during a visit to South Africa, where I barely saw officers on the streets yet felt secure. It’s time to rethink our strategy. Investing in surveillance infrastructure and data-driven deployment could make policing more efficient and responsive.
