45-Year-Old Mother Dies Hours After Delivering IVF Quintuplets in Akure
A 45-year-old woman in Akure, Ondo State, tragically passed away just hours after giving birth to quintuplets. Mrs Mary Yaduyan had been childless for 14 years before conceiving through an IVF procedure. Medical experts at a specialist hospital performed a Caesarean section and delivered five baby boys. Though the delivery was declared successful, Mrs Yaduyan suffered a sudden pulmonary embolism and could not be revived despite prompt resuscitation efforts. The lead consultant, speaking to a state government publication, said the pregnancy had been high risk due to a history of uterine fibroids removed two years earlier. She had regular antenatal care and was closely monitored from 31 weeks when her membranes ruptured prematurely. Family members recount the moments of celebration that turned to mourning. Her elder sister described video calls with the husband abroad and the joyous announcement to their mother, only to return and find the hospital in mourning.
