Gov. Makinde to Give Oyo Workers N10,000 Monthly Top-Up for Three Months Over Fuel Hike

Gov. Makinde to Give Oyo Workers N10,000 Monthly Top-Up for Three Months Over Fuel Hike

Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde has unveiled a N10,000 salary top-up for all state and local government workers. The allowance will run for three months starting in April to help cushion the impact of rising fuel prices. Makinde described the payment as a flat-rate petrol and transport support. He said the scheme could be extended if fuel costs remain high. He added that even non-state government employees in Oyo could benefit, stressing his commitment to inclusivity and continuity as his administration nears its end.

With Makinde's N10,000 monthly allowance for three months, do you think state workers will feel any real relief from fuel hikes?

That extra N10k is welcome and will ease some commuting costs for three months.

Do you know how far N10,000 will stretch on fuel for a typical worker each month?

It's interesting that every worker gets the same N10,000, even though some spend far more on fuel for daily commutes.

Three months of extra pay may sound generous, but fuel prices could stay high long after April, leaving workers back at square one.

It would help if local unions track actual travel expenses and share those figures with the government to adjust future allowances more fairly.
