OGWAMA Closes Ijebu Imushin Market Over Indiscriminate Waste Dumping

OGWAMA Closes Ijebu Imushin Market Over Indiscriminate Waste Dumping

Ogun State Waste Management Authority has shut Ijebu Imushin market in Ijebu East Local Government for indiscriminate dumping of refuse and a filthy environment. Traders and market leaders ignored repeated warnings to keep the area clean. OGWAMA cleaned up the site with mechanical evacuation and provided a Roll-on-Roll-Off bin for proper waste disposal. Despite these measures and a designated private service provider, many traders still dump garbage around the market. The market will remain closed until traders clear all waste and consistently use the bin. Authorities warn that continued neglect endangers public health by attracting disease-carrying flies and contaminating produce.

Do you think shutting down Ijebu Imushin market will actually change traders' dumping habits or just shift the problem elsewhere?

True, closing Ijebu Imushin market alone won't stop dumping habits. Traders fit just move the mess to another spot.

Hmm, shutting it down sounds drastic—where do you think traders will dump their waste then?

It seems odd that market leaders ignored repeated warnings before the cleanup, yet enforcement only happened after the mess grew unbearable.

Closing the whole market feels heavy-handed; couldn't fines or targeted warnings have sufficed instead of halting everyone's business?

Introducing more trash bins and regular community patrols might prevent future closures while keeping the market environment clean and trader incomes safe.
