Methodist Church Urges Akwa Ibom Govt to Repair Crumbling Edemaya Bridge

Methodist Church Urges Akwa Ibom Govt to Repair Crumbling Edemaya Bridge — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Methodist Church Nigeria’s Diocese of Ikot Abasi has raised alarm over the deteriorating Atan Ikpe Bridge in Edemaya Clan. The bridge’s condition is causing hardship for residents and road users. At the 34th Annual Diocesan Synod, church leaders praised the ARISE Agenda but warned that urgent repairs are needed to ease transport delays and support commerce in Edemaya and the wider Ikot Abasi area. The Synod also appealed for action on rising costs of food and transportation, and called for improved electricity distribution despite existing power infrastructure. On national issues, the church commended federal reforms, called for peace and accountability, and urged political actors to embrace issue-based engagement ahead of the next election cycle.

Why hasn't Akwa Ibom government fixed the Atan Ikpe Bridge despite the Methodist Church's urgent appeal?

Is the Methodist Church appeal focused on Edemaya Bridge, or is Atan Ikpe Bridge part of the same request?

I'm not convinced a quick government fix is all that's needed; local maintenance groups might handle minor repairs in the meantime.

Community leaders could set up a simple toll or donation scheme to fund temporary bridge repairs before state intervention arrives.
