Shakira Scores Legal Victory as Spain to Refund Over €55m
A Spanish court has ruled that Shakira was wrongly classified as a tax resident in 2011. Authorities must repay more than €55m, including penalties and interest. The court found she spent only 163 days in Spain that year, below the 183-day threshold for tax residency. The repayment covers about €24m in income tax, nearly €25m in fines and accumulated interest. Shakira criticized the investigation as a “brutal public exposure” that harmed her health and family. She accused authorities of leaking and distorting her case to send a “threatening message” to other taxpayers. This decision comes ahead of her world tour finale in Madrid and follows other high-profile Spanish tax cases against celebrities like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
