Kogi State Imposes Okada Ban and Night Curfew to Disrupt Bandit Supply Lines

The Kogi State Government has announced new security measures to cut off logistics to bandits in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. From June 13, commercial motorcycles will be banned in designated hinterland corridors to block the movement of food, fuel and medicine into forest hideouts. Markets along the affected routes must remain closed, and jerrican sales of petrol and diesel are prohibited across the LGA. A statewide curfew now bars travel on all state roads after 7pm daily, with violators subject to arrest under the Anti-Terrorism Law. These steps follow a recent repelled attack on Iluke community and aim to consolidate gains by joint security forces. The government says the measures will be reviewed every two weeks based on the progress of ongoing clearance operations.

Banning okadas might slow food or fuel deliveries, but targeting only commercial motorcycles ignores other channels supplying those bandits.

I doubt curfew and okada ban will stop sophisticated bandits who adapt quickly; security operations need broader support and intelligence.

Local authorities should pair the ban with checkpoints and community patrols to monitor contraband movements effectively during the curfew hours.
