VAR Rules Out West Ham’s Late Goal vs Arsenal — Premier League Explains Decision

VAR Rules Out West Ham’s Late Goal vs Arsenal — Premier League Explains Decision

The Premier League has clarified why West Ham’s stoppage-time equaliser against Arsenal was overturned after a VAR review. Arsenal took a late 1-0 lead through Leandro Trossard in the 83rd minute. In stoppage time, West Ham thought they had scored, but VAR official Darren England asked referee Chris Kavanagh to check if goalkeeper David Raya had been fouled. On review, Kavanagh ruled that the West Ham striker held Raya, overturning the goal for a direct free kick. West Ham remain in the relegation battle, one point behind Tottenham with an extra game to play before facing Newcastle and Leeds. Arsenal now edge closer to the title as they prepare to face Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Do you think VAR officials should communicate more clearly when overturning goals like West Ham's stoppage-time effort against Arsenal?

It seems strange that a goal scored in stoppage time can be reversed after the celebration has already started. Timing feels off.

I get VAR errors are frustrating, but isn't it better to correct a clear offside rather than let an illegitimate goal stand?

Clubs should perhaps review VAR training and ensure referees focus on consistency in stoppage-time decisions to avoid similar controversies.
