Why Nigerian Talent Isn’t Meeting Global Job Standards—and How to Bridge the Gap
I agree with the CEO of Moniepoint who said they have over 500 open roles they struggle to fill with Nigerians meeting global standards. This reflects a challenge many recruiters face every day. Nigeria’s talent pool is strong. But gaps in job readiness remain. Our education system often lacks practical skills. We also spend hours on light social media content that adds little to our growth. Recruiters report issues like skill mismatch, weak communication, poor problem-solving, inconsistent work ethic and an entitlement mindset. Many candidates also lack basic digital literacy and proper interview preparation. Individual discipline and personal responsibility are key. Be intentional about what you consume. Build practical skills, strengthen communication, and develop consistency and integrity. That is the bridge to real opportunities.
