Ranking Nigeria’s States by Literacy Rate

Ranking Nigeria’s States by Literacy Rate

Here is a ranking of Nigerian states by literacy rate, based on national education surveys. Lagos leads at 96.0%, followed by Imo (93.5%) and Anambra (92.8%). The national average is around 79.5%. I’m proud that my state tops this list. What about yours? Meanwhile, did you know that if the 1991 coup attempt led by Gideon Orkar had succeeded in carving out the North East and North West, Nigeria’s current literacy landscape and global standing might look very different?

Nigeria's literacy map shows Lagos leading at 96%. How do you think other states can close that gap effectively?

I see the point; maybe states should focus on better teacher training and simple infrastructure support first.

Dem numbers look solid, but some remote areas rarely feature in national surveys, so the ranking might miss many underserved communities.

Impressive statistics, but literacy is more than numbers on a page. We should consider quality of education, not just survey percentages.

To boost literacy, states with lower rates could partner with local libraries and train community volunteers for adult reading programs.
