Is RCCG Serving as the APC’s De Facto Religious Wing?
Many leading APC figures are pastors or regular attendees at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. These include Remi Tinubu, the EFCC chairman, the APC National Youth Chairman Dayo Israel, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. High-ranking INEC official Lawrence Bayode and other political appointees also hold pastoral roles at RCCG. Several governors and national leaders—such as the Inspector General of Police, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri—attend RCCG services. The church often hosts thanksgiving events for APC politicians. Critics note that RCCG’s spiritual head once spoke out against government ills but has since remained silent on recent communal massacres. There are no public statements from him condemning atrocities in Plateau, Ondo, Kwara, or Benue since May 2023. This growing overlap between RCCG leadership and APC officials has led many to question whether the church has become the party’s unofficial religious arm.
