Air Force Admits Pilot Selfies Caused 2021 F-15K Jet Collision
The South Korean Air Force has issued a formal apology over a mid-air collision between two F-15K jets in 2021. A state audit found that pilots performed unplanned climbs and banks to film selfies during a formation flight near Daegu. One wingman sharply manoeuvred without clearance and struck the lead jet’s wing. No injuries were reported, but repair costs reached about ₩880 million. Auditors blamed the wingman pilot and ordered him to repay a portion of the damage. He was suspended and has since left the service. The air force said it will tighten safety rules and oversight to prevent similar incidents.
