Avoid Weaponising Insecurity: Unite Beyond Partisan Politics
One recurring feature of democracy is the politicisation of national crises. Security challenges and economic reforms often become tools for political gain, undermining public trust in institutions. Nigeria’s current security threats—terrorism, banditry and kidnapping—predate the present administration. Simplistic judgments of reform success based on each attack ignore the deeper, long-standing nature of these challenges. Economic measures like fuel subsidy removal, exchange-rate adjustments and tax restructuring will unsettle entrenched interests. History shows real reform sparks resistance before delivering lasting stability. Nigerians must insist on accountability and reject the exploitation of insecurity for partisan advantage.
