CAS Puts Hold on Senegal’s AFCON 2025 Title Decision
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has provisionally suspended the ruling that stripped Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations crown and handed it to Morocco. This interim order freezes the Confederation of African Football’s Appeals Board verdict until a full hearing. The dispute dates back to the January 2026 final, when Senegal beat hosts Morocco 1–0 after extra time. A late penalty award to Morocco sparked controversy. Even though the kick was missed, Senegal’s players briefly walked off in protest before returning to finish the match. With the title now in legal limbo, AFCON 2025 currently has no officially recognised champion. CAF says it will respect the tribunal’s final decision, expected in the coming months.
