Imo First Lady Praises Over 1,000 Free Colorectal Cancer Screenings by David Omenukor Foundation

Imo First Lady Praises Over 1,000 Free Colorectal Cancer Screenings by David Omenukor Foundation — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The David Omenukor Foundation provided free colorectal cancer screenings to more than 1,000 people during the 2026 Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The “Blue Hat & Bow Tie” event at Golden Vista Hotel included health talks and expert-led workshops. Imo State First Lady Chioma Uzodimma, represented by Health Commissioner Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu, commended the Foundation’s efforts. Dr. Egu urged residents to watch for warning signs such as blood in the stool, persistent bowel changes, abdominal discomfort, and unexplained fatigue. Consultant Dr. Christopher Ekwunife highlighted that early screening saves lives, reduces costs, and lessens long-term impacts. Foundation CEO Dr. Keyna Omenukor called on Nigerians to embrace regular checks and open discussions about colorectal cancer. The campaign, in partnership with the Nigerian Cancer Society and global associations, featured keynote contributions and on-site registration for follow-up tests. Organisers and volunteers pledged to keep raising awareness and prioritise preventive healthcare across the state.

I'm curious how the David Omenukor Foundation organized over a thousand free screenings—were local clinics and volunteers involved?

You're right, it'd be great to learn whether local clinics and volunteers were key in setting up so many free screenings.

It does sound impressive; I'm hoping they worked closely with local clinics and volunteer teams, right?

It sounds impressive, but I wonder if everyone who tested positive received proper follow-up care after the screenings.

Praise is due, yet calling it a one-off event risks ignoring the need for continuous support in rural areas.

Practical steps? Local organizers can host quarterly workshops with free screenings and invite medical experts to maintain awareness.
