UK Student Visa: Nigeria Excluded From Proof-of-Funds Exemption List

The UK has updated its Student visa guidance on the differential evidence requirement. Citizens of selected countries, including Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia, may apply without submitting proof of funds at the initial stage. This is not a waiver of the financial requirement. UK Visas and Immigration can still ask applicants to provide bank statements or other financial documents before deciding an application. Nigeria is not on the list. Nigerian applicants should therefore be prepared to show funds covering their first year of tuition, as stated on their CAS, plus living costs. The current maintenance requirement is up to £13,761 for students in London and £10,539 for those studying outside London, excluding tuition fees. Students who have legally lived in the UK for at least 12 months before applying may not need to provide financial evidence.
