South Africa’s JSE dominates with a $1.5 trillion market cap. Nigeria’s NGX follows at $117 billion, Morocco’s BVC at $111 billion, and Egypt’s EGX at $81 billion. Secondary markets are much smaller. Botswana’s BSE sits at $75 billion, and the WAEMU regional exchange serves eight francophone countries with $28 billion. Kenya’s NSE, Ghana’s GSE, Tanzania’s DSE, and Uganda’s USE together trade $72 billion—less than Botswana alone. Overall, most African exchanges remain limited in size, depth, and liquidity.
