Sheikh Mansur Tells Clerics: Don’t Use Religion to Campaign for Tinubu
During his Eid sermon in Sokoto, Sheikh Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto warned fellow clerics against promoting President Bola Tinubu solely on a religious basis. He argued that the Muslim-Muslim ticket was a political strategy rather than a genuine plan to uplift Muslims or the northern region. The scholar noted that nearly two years after the 2023 elections, Muslims are still facing hardship and the North remains underdeveloped. He challenged supporters to point to tangible achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, the economy, or electricity. Sheikh Mansur urged religious leaders to focus on real performance instead of using faith as a tool for political mobilisation. He added that if the current administration has no clear results to show, Nigerians should feel free to explore other options. His remarks add to the ongoing debate over the role of religion in Nigeria’s politics, especially following the controversy over the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.
