WAEC 2026 Chemistry Practical Reagent Mix-Up Sparks Teacher Concern
As a chemistry teacher, I received the WAEC 2026 practical specimen less than two weeks ago. It listed reagents and solution concentrations for titrations and salt analysis. Schools use this to prepare students for the exam. The specimen specified sulphuric acid and potassium hydroxide for titrations. But the actual exam question used ethanoic acid with potassium hydroxide. This mismatch will skew average titre values and affect marking. Teachers have very little time to adjust preparations. WAEC’s sudden change may aim to curb malpractice, but it lacks transparency and undermines students and educators. This issue is not widely known. WAEC should clarify the reagent list or update the marking guide to ensure fair scoring.
