5 Practical Tips to Raise Brilliant Children in Nigeria

5 Practical Tips to Raise Brilliant Children in Nigeria

Academic success starts at home. As a parent, you play the biggest role in shaping your child’s love for learning, especially in a system where schools often lack resources. I’ve worked for years as a Learning Support Head, and I’ve seen how simple, intentional steps can spark brilliance early on. Read aloud to your child from age two, using colourful pictures and fun songs to connect sounds to letters. Turn reading into play, not punishment. Set clear study and entertainment schedules. Limit screen time so that homework gets the attention it deserves. Introduce age-appropriate novels to build vocabulary and confidence. Finally, teach your children how to think, not just what to think. Challenge them with open-ended questions and creative tasks. This approach, unlike rote learning, helps them develop critical reasoning and a lifelong curiosity.
