INEC’s Partisan Recall of David Mark and the Looming Abacha-Style 2027 ‘Coronation’
INEC’s abrupt withdrawal of recognition for the David Mark-led ADC reeks of partisanship. The appeal court ordered the status quo to remain pending final judgment, but INEC jumped the gun despite its chairman being a law professor and SAN. It’s clear which ADC faction will emerge: a shell aligned with the APC. They’ll either run placeholder candidates or back President Tinubu, making the contest a mere formality. The 2023 presidential election cost about ₦300–₦355 billion. Estimates for 2027 approach ₦870 billion. Why spend nearly a trillion on a preordained exercise? We might as well dispense with elections, coronate Tinubu, and save the money.
