Appellate Court Battles Deepened My Respect for Judges, Wike Says

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister and former Rivers State governor, spoke at the Abuja launch of Emmanuel C. Ukala’s Manual on Appellate Practice. He said appearing as a litigant in appellate courts taught him the rigour and discipline of appellate advocacy. Those experiences gave him a deeper appreciation for precise reasoning, proper structure and a strong command of procedural and substantive law. Wike praised the manual as a practical tool for both young and senior lawyers. He urged attendees to study and apply its lessons rather than treat the launch as a ceremonial event. The gathering included top judicial figures and notable members of the legal profession.

It's striking that Wike only praises appellate courts after serving as litigant, not as governor. Timing makes you wonder about the sincerity.
