Korea Republic coach Hong Myung-bo has admitted full responsibility for his team’s 1-0 loss to South Africa at the World Cup. South Africa made history by advancing to the knockout stage for the first time after Thapelo Maseko’s 63rd-minute goal. Hong praised his players’ effort but said conceding the opener changed the entire contest. Speaking to FIFA media, he said: “The players gave everything, but it is disappointing to concede the opening goal. As head coach, the disappointing result lies with me.” The defeat leaves Korea with plenty of questions as South Africa celebrate a milestone victory and look ahead to the knockout rounds.
