Gunshots Reported as Police Allegedly Escort Thugs to Osun Motor Park Despite Ban

Gunshots and teargas reportedly caused panic at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday after police officers were allegedly seen escorting armed thugs to take over the park. The incident allegedly happened despite Governor Ademola Adeleke's order suspending NURTW activities and levy collection at motor parks across the state. Witnesses claimed naval personnel later intervened and arrested four suspects allegedly found with pump-action guns. The state government said the suspension was intended to curb recurring violence around motor parks while commercial transport operations continue. The police spokesperson had not responded to requests for comment at the time of the report. The incident has heightened security concerns ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
