Fernandez Delights with Maiden Super Eagles Goal

Fernandez Delights with Maiden Super Eagles Goal

Emmanuel Fernandez was proud to net his first goal for the Super Eagles in their 2-2 friendly draw with Jordan’s Al-Nashama in Antalya. The Peterborough United defender expertly controlled Bright Osayi-Samuel’s cross and fired a left-footed finish past the keeper in the 41st minute. It was only Fernandez’s second appearance for Nigeria, following his debut in the 2-1 win over Iran last week. He took to social media to share his joy, calling it a “great experience” and writing, “Honoured and grateful to play for Nigeria. First start, first goal. Enjoyable experience.”

What do you think Fernandez needs to work on after that debut goal to secure a regular spot?

Are we talking about his positioning off the ball or more about his defensive duties?

Shouldn't we question whether his positioning or his work rate needs more focus, rather than just scoring technique?

It was a decent finish, but against a mid-tier friendly opponent, it's hard to gauge his true defensive impact.

I'm not convinced one goal in a friendly proves he's ready for tougher competition in qualifiers.

Coach should rotate the backline more in friendlies, giving Fernandez chances to adapt under varied tactics.
