Ogun State Unveils Multi-Billion-Dollar Fashion and Creative Industries Plan

Ogun State Unveils Multi-Billion-Dollar Fashion and Creative Industries Plan

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced a bold initiative at the grand finale of the 2026 Lisabi Festival in Abeokuta. The programme, in partnership with the federal government, aims to transform Ogun’s creative sector into a major economic driver. The plan will spotlight indigenous culture, with special emphasis on Adire fabric and the Egbaliganza showcase. Dubbed the “Adire Renaissance,” it is designed to empower local artisans, create jobs and boost tourism. Aligned with Ogun State’s 50th anniversary and the Ramadan and Lenten seasons, the event also highlighted a new apprenticeship-in-education theme to tackle youth unemployment. The governor further outlined upgrades in technical and vocational training, road improvements in Abeokuta, expanded housing projects and the near-completion of the Oke-Mosan Medical Centre of Excellence. Governor Abiodun urged citizens to embrace unity and collective responsibility in building a prosperous future for the state.

It's impressive to see the federal partnership, but such multi-billion plans often face delays and unclear accountability measures.

I'm not convinced local artisans will benefit if infrastructure and training aren't prioritised over flashy launch events.

To make this work, there should be transparent budget tracking and regular skills workshops for emerging designers across Ogun State.
