US Mission Reminds Dual Citizens to Use Valid US Passports for Travel

The United States Mission in Nigeria has reminded US citizens, including dual nationals and children, that they must use a valid US passport when entering or leaving the United States. The mission said dual-national US citizens cannot use a foreign passport to apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization. Such applications may be denied or cancelled by the Department of Homeland Security. Americans living abroad were advised to check their passport validity early and renew well before travel. The mission noted that many countries require passports to remain valid for at least six months beyond the travel date.
