Awka Court Jails Fake ‘Onyeze Jesus’ for Six Years, Imposes N20m Fine
An Awka High Court sentenced Onyebuchi Okocha, known online as Onyeze Jesus, to six years in prison and fined him N20 million for claiming he could multiply money through supernatural means. He has been in custody since his arrest 18 months ago. Justice Jude Obiora upheld a charge under Section 18 of the Anambra State Homeland Laws for propagating money-making schemes via social media. Two other counts alleging ritual murder and money doubling were dismissed due to lack of evidence. Kneeling in tears, Okocha begged the court for mercy, explaining that his first offence has left his twin children, wife and three widows who depended on him without care. His plea did not sway the judge, who delivered the full sentence today, July 17.
